Black Water

On the south side of the Maasduin chain lies the area of Black Water. The ground consists of a number of old Meuse beds from times long gone. The Venkoelen in the middle of the area is the largest water and was created by peat extraction. It is surrounded by forest that was planted particularly from 1930 onwards. On the north-east side, the forest is interspersed with small but valuable grasslands. It thus forms a nice transition to the Vreewater.
